Organising is crucial in addressing decent work deficits in the informal economy
Monday, 30 July 18
National workshop on Organising Informal Economy was organised by the ITUC - Asia Pacific in Jakarta, Indonesia on 30 July 2018 for the Konfederasi Serikat Pekerja Indonesia (KSPI) and the Konfederasi Serikat Buruh Sejahtera Indonesia (KSBSI).
Various strategies and initiatives for organising workers in the informal economy were shared and discussed by the participants. Both the KSPI and the KSBSI have made significant efforts to organise informal economy workers. They have been successfully organised the informal economy workers in construction industries, home based and domestic workers, on-line drivers and street vendors. Bringing them into the trade union fold has contributed to the union’s strength, in particular addressing decent work deficits in the informal economy. One of the greatest achievements of their campaigns is that the central government is committed to achieving universal health coverage by 2019.
