Rights, Peace and Democracy

The ITUC-Asia Pacific promotes the interdependent issues of rights, peace and democracy to create an environment where workers’ fundamental rights and freedoms are guaranteed and can be fully exercised without fear of reprisal.

To pursue the broader goal of social justice, the ITUC-Asia Pacific strives to build a strong and united trade union movement with the power to promote and defend workers’ rights everywhere, especially in Asia and the Pacific region. To reinforce our work in this regard, we initiate and organise solidarity campaigns along with our affiliates, the Global Union Federations (GUFs), and the relevant civil society organisations.

We work closely with the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) to monitor and promote the proper implementation of ratified International Labour Conventions by the member-states of the International Labour Organization (ILO) through ILO’s  supervisory mechanism. We also assist our affiliates in capacity building to address the deficiencies in the labour legislations in their countries.
