1. The Position: Senior Officer
2. Tasks & Responsibilities:
a) Monitor and respond to violation of workers’ rights in the region.
b) Organise and service field missions to identify needs and provide trainings and technical advisory services to member organisations on workers’ rights topics including informal economy, labour migration, EPZs, MNCs, global supply chains, child labour, forced labour, human trafficking, and other issues related to the work of the ITUC-AP.
c) Conceptualise, write and prepare study materials and publications on substantive topics such as workers’ rights, industrial relations, organising, trade union management, etc.
d) Draft speeches, resolutions, recommendations and guidelines for discussion and prepare country specific reports and other documentation on related topics.
e) Any other duties as assigned by the General Secretary.
3. Competencies & Experience:
a) A strong personal and professional commitment to the objectives of the ITUC-AP.
b) Good understanding of organising, negotiating and policy objectives of trade unions, NGOs and like-minded organisations.
c) Familiar with national, regional, global trade union movements, particularly in the South Asia region, and working experience related to human/workers’ rights, industrial relations, trade unions, international politics, etc.
d) Service-oriented, excellent teamwork and capacity in building and managing human relations.
e) Proficiency in MS office tools, strong writing abilities and proven communications skills, attentive to details and good analytical skills.
f) Professional qualifications in human rights, politics, law, industrial relations or a related field are an advantage.
g) Fluency in English, both spoken and written is essential. Knowledge of any other languages is an advantage.
4. Employment Conditions:
a) The position shall work under the authority of the ITUC-AP General Secretary.
b) 2-year renewable employment contract with a mutual three month probation period from commencement. Renewal will be based on mutual consent, subject to periodical job appraisals.
c) To be stationed in the ITUC-AP Secretariat in Singapore.
d) The terms and conditions of employment are according to the Memorandum of Understanding existing between the ITUC-AP and the Staff Association of the ITUC-AP.
