10th Regional General Council For Lasting Peace and Democracy

Document
Resolution
1
Oct 2014

In this resolution, the ITUC-AP emphasizes that a peaceful and stable society, free from war, discrimination, and human rights violations is a prerequisite for workers to lead an ordinary life, to work, and to pursue sustainable social and economic development as 2015 marks the 70th anniversary of the end of WWII. With this, the Council is deeply concerned with the unstable economic and social situations, frequent military conflicts, and 16,000 warheads occurring along with a globalizing economy.

With this, the Council, affiliates, and GUFs are requested to: further demand the government not to use “anti-terrorist measures” to suppress or deter the fundamental rights of trade unions; mobilize support of governments and society to promote reduction of arms and abolition of weapons of mass destruction; and to canvass support of governments for early entry into force of the CTBT, a dialogue for FMCT, and review conference of the Treaty on NPT.
