16th Regional General Council - SOLIDARITY WITH INDIAN WORKERS’ STRUGGLE AGAINST ANTI-LABOUR POLICIES OF GOVERNMENT

Document
Resolution
1
Nov 2018

The ITUC-AP expresses serious concern at the increasing incidence of violation of fundamental rights of workers in India. It condemns the Government of India for attacking workers rights and failing to protect their own people, and recalls previous resolutions condemning the Government of India from withholding participation of the largest trade union centre in the country (ITUC-AP-affiliated INTUC) in various tripartite bodies and international fora like ILO.

The ITUC-AP notes the 3-day demonstration by Indian trade unions in November 2017 in front of the Parliament, and further notes that this 3-day agitation was followed by country-wide agitations. It expresses deep concern at the Government of India’s move to amalgamate 44 Central labour legislations in 4 labour codes, and commends the unity and struggle of the trade unions for restoration of fundamental freedoms for workers in India and supports the proposed strikes in January regionally and globally.
