1st Regional Conference - RESOLUTION ON BURMA

Document
Resolution
1
Nov 2007

In this resolution, the Founding Conference of the ITUC-Asia Pacific expresses serious concern over the continuous state of repression especially of labour and trade union rights in Burma and notes that the conditions of Burma remain critical in spite of the campaigns by the international community, including by the trade union movement against widespread and systematic violations of human rights over many years.

It calls on the ITUC-AP, its affiliates and GUFs to work together to implement and coordinate international trade union campaigning to achieve the implementation of this declaration and calls on the Governments  to increase political, diplomatic and economic pressure, including the application of effective economic sanctions on the regime in order to ensure respect for fundamental rights and democratic rule and to take up these concerns within United Nations Security Council to develop a coordinated international response to the deteriorating situation in Burma as a matter of urgency.
