22nd Regional General Council - Resolution No. 7: Sri Lanka - Decent Work at the Centre of Recovery

Document
Resolution
27
Oct 2022

In this resolution, the ITUC-Asia Pacific demands the Sri Lankan government to have a series of genuine and constructive dialogues with its social partners, if possible, together with international and regional financial institutions, to take an adequate and immediate relief action, as well as to ensure the structural reform for the decent work-centred recovery towards sustainable, inclusive and resilient Sri Lanka.

It also calls on international and regional financial institutions, such as the World Bank, the IMF and the ADB, to ramp up their activities without delay to relieve millions of people in poverty and hunger. Moreover, the ADB and the World Bank, working together with the Sri Lankan government, are urged to introduce necessary social safety nets for workers, in particular, in under-invested and vulnerable industries.
