3rd Regional Conference - BETTER OHS STANDARDS FOR JUST SOCIETY AND DECENT WORK

Document
Resolution

Jan 2015

In this resolution, the 3rd ITUC-AP Regional Conference reaffirms OHS of workers as a basic human right, making it an essential prerequisite for a just society and decent work. With this, a series of industrial accidents were recalled with a serious concern for the persistently high death toll from work-related accidents and diseases every year in the APAC region. This, along with an increasing precarity and informality of employment with long working hours, as labour market institutions have been weakened, have raised risks to mental health and vulnerability to violence, harassment and bullying at work were noted.

Thus, the Conference highlights the importance of a trade union as an effective tool to ensure OSH, and commits the ITUC-AP, affiliates, and GUFs to: establish an OHS committee in all levels; develop OHS audit tools; promote the ratification and enforcement of relevant ILO Conventions; make the best use of existing OHS models; conduct a solidarity campaign in the case of major industrial accidents or diseases in support of victims and their families; and build capacity for education and training on OHS.
