3rd Regional Conference - CHINA AND HONG KONG

In this resolution, the ITUC-AP  expresses concern over China’s ineffective implementation of various laws and regulations previously passed to protect workers, as well as its government’s history of repressing workers’ actions and fundamental labour rights. The Conference therefore calls on them to release all imprisoned labor activists immediately and to implement each core labor right listed in the ILC. 

In line with this, the ITUC-AP also expresses deep concern for the current “small-circle election” of Hong Kong’s Chief Executive and system of Functional Constituency for this is a clear violation of labor rights and sacrifice of workers’ political rights. The Conference fully supports the Hong Kong trade unions to achieve a universal, equal, and democratic election mechanism, and strongly condemns the Hong KOng SAR Government in creating White Terror after the Umbrella Movement.
