9th Regional General Council - Bangladesh Rana Plaza Calamity

In this resolution, the ITUC-AP expresses profound regret at the massive loss of workers' lives in the Rana Plaza building in Bangladesh, and deep concern over the callous attitude of the management and authorities towards workers’ safety and denial of trade union rights. The council recalls that industrial accidents causing the deaths of workers in Bangladesh occur with frightening frequency. With this, the Council demands the payment of adequate compensation to the victims’ families, and urges all buyers to adhere to the agreement to ensure international standards on health and safety, worker-friendly environment, decent work, and effective exercise of the right to organize and bargain collectively.
