In this resolution, the ITUC-AP expresses its concern for the weakening workers’ protection, governments’ lack of political will in upholding workers’ rights, and unprecedented attacks on workers and unions and a volatile economic environment making it difficult for workers to exercise and demand better terms and conditions at work. Many of the women workers in the informal and other precarious employment cases remain outside the scope and protection of the already under implemented labor laws.
With this, the ITUC-AP and affiliates are called to: introduce provisions for promoting women in leadership positions; utilize tripartism and social dialogue to improve policies; develop action plans and intensify union activities; support women-focused programs; set up a monitoring mechanism for action plan progress; monitor and follow up action plans; report to the General Council on initiatives and outcomes.
