In this message of solidarity on IWD 2021, Shoya Yoshida, General Secretary of the ITUC-AP, joins women and unions around the region and elsewhere in solidarity to honour the women of the past and other women who persevere to secure the rights and freedoms women enjoy today. They note that the long, challenging, and difficult sacrifices made by these women is what keep union women more determined and renewed with optimism on this day.
Yoshida enumerates the many reasons why the work on gender equality remains crucial and states that, despite all these and the daily realities facing women and girls, we can still celebrate. In the midst of these are remarkable achievements and successes on women’s rights and leadership, including within ITUC-AP’s ranks.
Yoshida ends by saying that ITUC-AP will work with women, in partnership with others, to, among other things, make the vision of the ratification of the ILO C190 a reality.
