1 February 2025 marks the fourth anniversary of the military coup d'état in Myanmar.
Four years after the military junta forcibly seized power, the people of Myanmar continue to endure horrific atrocities and systemic human rights violations. Thousands have been killed, arrested, and tortured, while countless others have been forced into hiding. Millions have been displaced, and the majority of those who remain in the country are living in abject poverty. Violent attacks and oppression persist, deepening the country’s crisis.
Despite these dire circumstances, the workers and people of Myanmar remain steadfast in their collective struggle for democracy and justice. Their courage inspires the global trade union movement, which stands in unwavering solidarity with their cause.
In this regard, the ITUC-Asia Pacific, in collaboration with the ITUC, puts the spotlight back on the events of the past four years, during which the military junta has robbed the people of Myanmar of their democracy and freedom.

As part of these efforts, an online forum titled "Dismantling Military Rule: Building a Federal Democratic Myanmar" will take place on 12 February 2025 (by invitation only). This forum will provide a platform to discuss and strategise the ongoing resistance against the junta and efforts to restore democracy in Myanmar.
