The International Trade Union Confederation - Asia Pacific (ITUC-Asia Pacific) stands in solidarity with Sentro ng mga Nagkakaisa at Progresibong Manggagawa (SENTRO), the Workers Solidarity Network-DHL United Workers Union (WSN-DUWU), and the 473 DHL Supply Chain workers facing mass redundancy following the announced closure of the company’s warehouse in Muntinlupa, Metro Manila.
We are deeply concerned that the closure and termination notices came shortly after WSN-DUWU was certified as the workers’ sole and exclusive bargaining representative. Workers must not lose their livelihoods for exercising their fundamental rights to organise and bargain collectively.
We call on the DHL management to engage in dialogue immediately and in good faith with WSN-DUWU and SENTRO, suspend the planned dismissals while dialogue continues, and seek a fair solution that protects workers’ jobs and rights. DHL must ensure that its operations in the Philippines fully respect its global commitments to freedom of association, collective bargaining, and constructive labour relations.
We also urge the Philippine Government and the Department of Labor and Employment to intervene promptly and ensure that the workers’ rights are upheld.
The international trade union movement stands firmly with the DHL workers in their struggle for justice, dignity, and decent work.
